Connecticut Geriatric Education Consortium

The CTGEC is currently comprised of approximately 20 colleges and universities throughout the state of Connecticut, as well as over 50 individuals who are actively involved in geriatric and gerontological research.

The mission of the Connecticut Geriatric Education Consortium (CTGEC) is to be a collaborative resource for geriatric and gerontological education to improve the quality and availability of health care for all older persons in Connecticut, especially medically-underserved and minorities. CTGEC accomplishes this mission by acting as a statewide consortium of academic and community partners, developing interdisciplinary training opportunities for health care professionals, and disseminating information about statewide needs and geriatric educational resources.

The CTGEC works closely with service agencies, non-profit organizations, and community members with an interest in the health care needs of older adults.

The CTGEC is supported by the Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center (RIGEC), which, in turn, is funded in part by a grant from the Bureau of Health Professions, Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center

Established in 1996, the Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center is one of a national network of geriatric education centers supported, in part, by the Bureau of Health Professions, Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The mission of the Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center is to improve knowledge and skills in geriatrics and gerontology and to foster interdisciplinary training for health care and human service professionals in order to meet the complex needs of the elderly and enhance their quality of life. To that end, RIGEC offers interdisciplinary geriatric education for health care and human service professionals on relevant topics and training in geriatric content and team process to interdisciplinary clinical teams and community-based groups. RIGEC is a consortium comprised of three institutions of higher education and a community-based advocacy group. You can visit RIGEC’s webpage at http://www.uri.edu/outreach/rigec.
